Collection: Shigaraki Ware

Shigaraki ware (信楽焼) is a type of stoneware pottery made in Shigaraki area of Japan. Its kiln and local pottery tradition have a long history. The kiln is one of the Six Ancient Kilns in Japan, that was said that it lasted for 1250years and counting.

The most significant feature of Shigaraki ware is the "burning" effect. They use a different firing process technique called wood-fire (meaning to burn wood to reach a certain temperature) in which during this process, the glaze coming from the wood ashes will leave very different effects to each piece of work each time.
