Scott Chan
-
Hong Kong–born ceramic artist Scott Chan came of age in the city’s lively 1980s and 90s street culture, a backdrop that shaped his mischievous, reflective voice in clay. Trained in fine arts but largely self-driven, his practice moves between sketch-like spontaneity and slow, meditative hand-building. Over the years he has shown widely in Hong Kong and Japan, with works collected in the US, UK, Japan, and Taiwan. What ties it all together is an unfiltered honesty — each piece carrying traces of memory, humour, and the city he calls home.
-
What began as a process of simply making — shaping clay without plans or explanations — slowly revealed something deeper for Scott. As the forms emerged, he realized many carried the spirit of his two dogs who had passed, returning as playful, protective companions in clay. These figures are not memorials in the traditional sense, but living reminders of love and presence — quiet guardians that continue to walk alongside him, now taking shape as vessels and characters for others to meet.

When you step into Say Nothing, you’ll notice it doesn’t feel like a white-walled gallery. Instead, the works are woven right into the shop — sitting among shelves, mingling with everyday goods, and quietly working their own personalities. Each piece is interactive, some with movable headpieces, some doubling as vases, all of them ready to be felt and discovered.

This setup mirrors the way these works can live at home. Just as they tuck into corners of the shop, they can slip seamlessly into your living space — on a kitchen shelf, beside your books, or as the centerpiece of a dining table. They are not just objects to look at but companions to live with, season after season. You can even swap out their headpieces depending on your mood or the occasion — flowers in spring, something festive at Christmas, or a playful twist for Halloween.

In this way, Say Nothing shows how art and life overlap: ceramics don’t need to be distant or delicate, they can be part of your daily rituals. Just like our shop blends goods and stories, these works invite you to bring that same spirit home — to create little moments of intimacy, play, and quiet joy, wherever you are.
